Lighthouse International Double Up 4 Vision

Lighthouse International, a worldwide organization dedicated to fighting vision loss through prevention, treatment and empowerment, had never before undertaken an athletic fundraising and awareness event. Eventage was brought in to work in partnership with the Lighthouse team for almost a year to help design, launch and execute two Double Up 4 Vision events. The first was a 24-hour tandem cycling relay which travelled through all five boroughs of NYC, concluding at the second event, a community 5K tandem ride, walk and family fun festival along the Hudson River.

• Six tandem cycling teams, each with a visually impaired rider
• 125 mile route covering all five boroughs
• Five FDNY firehouses to serve as transition stations and media locations
• A very cold team 5 who still got an awesome photo in front of Yankee Stadium at 3am and a very cold team 6 who appeared on the CBS Early Show
• Eventage lead cyclist out front and support team in a trailing branded SUV
• 75 rented and loaned tandem bikes for the 5K ride/walk beginning at Harlem Piers Park
• One FDNY fireboat to send the riders and walkers off in style

The 24-Hour Tandem Relay was covered extensively in the NYC media, including the NY Daily News, the New York Times, the Brooklyn Eagle and WCBS Radio.

In it's first two years, the 5K Ride/Walk attracted more than 1200 participants and raised more than $490,000, exceeding the goals for both benchmarks.

Lighthouse International and Eventage are working together on the 3rd annual event.
